Lower School (Grades K-4) Interim SLP

Currey Ingram Academy is currently accepting applications for a K - 4 interim speech-language pathologist, with a start date in January 2018. Responsibilities include providing speech/language therapy, both group and individual, as well as writing goals for Individual Learning Plans, consulting with teachers, and attending parent conferences. Areas of focus for therapy may include articulation, expressive and receptive language skills, and word retrieval strategies. Excellent communication in both oral and written expression is required. Candidates should have a graduate degree in speech/language or communication disorders. Position Description:
Plans, organizes, and directs a continuous program for the care and treatment of persons affected by speech and hearing impairments; and performs related duties as required.
Maintains legal compliance by adhering to federal, state, and local regulations, and professional standards. Plans and administers the MPHD hearing program in conformity with existing policies and regulations.
Performs hearing assessments utilizing specialized equipment to determine diagnosis and treatment.
Recommends and assists in obtaining appropriate intervention to facilitate optimal hearing ability for children age birth to 21.
Collaborates with other health and educational agencies in the community to receive referrals and establish plans of care.
Keeps comprehensive records and generates reports.
Updates knowledge by tracking trends in new techniques and approaches, and participating in educational opportunities.
Maintains supplies inventory by checking stock; anticipating needs; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.

This classification works under the supervision of Health Access Director who defines overall objective and priorities of the work and is consulted on unusual or complex matters. May instruct and monitor student trainees.

Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited (4) four-year college or university; Master’s Degree or Doctorate (Au.D) in Audiology; and successful completion of the national certification examination. Certified as an Audiologist by the American Speech/Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and licensed or eligible for licensure as an Audiologist by the State of Tennessee Health Related Boards. Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) candidates will be considered with mandatory State of Tennessee provisional license and optional student ASHA license. Upon completion of the CFY the employee must immediately obtain licensure as outlined above.

Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Experience:
Graduate training or experience in public health or working with young children.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the basic norms of speech and language development.
Knowledge of the functions and resources of voluntary groups and agencies concerned with the affected speech and hearing population, especially children’s groups.
Knowledge of the methods and techniques of compiling and disseminating health information.
Proficient skills and knowledge for testing procedures for children ages birth to 21 years.
Ability to provide counseling for those parents whose children have or will be diagnosed with hearing loss.

• Current and unencumbered license to practice speech pathology specific to that state the employee is assigned to work
